Summary
You will work on a team building the agentic AI foundation for an entire enterprise. This isn’t a side project or an innovation lab. The agents you deploy will underwrite jewelry, serve customers, and power internal operations at scale. You’ll have direct line-of-sight to business outcomes, executive visibility from day one, and the rare opportunity to define how a 113-year-old company operates in the age of AI.
About Jewelers Mutual
Jewelers Mutual Group has been protecting the jewelry industry for over 112 years, and we’re now pairing that deep domain expertise with a ground-up technology transformation. Our engineering team in Raleigh is building a serverless, event-driven platform on AWS, a modern data stack on Databricks, and an enterprise AI capability designed to change how insurance works. This is Silicon Valley energy inside a company that’s been earning trust since 1913.
What You'll Do
- Ship Production-Grade AI Agents: Design, build, and deploy autonomous and semi-autonomous agents that solve real business problems. You own the full lifecycle from architecture through production release, including the evaluation frameworks, tracing, and observability that give the team confidence agents are performing correctly at scale.
- Architect and Integrate Agentic Workflows: Build multi-agent orchestration patterns, tool-use chains, and human-in-the-loop systems, and wire them into APIs, event buses, data platforms, and core business systems. You’ll work within a serverless, event-driven architecture on AWS and define the patterns that the rest of the engineering org builds on.
- Optimize Prompts and LLM Application Layers: Own prompt engineering, context management, and LLM orchestration at the application layer. Squeeze maximum performance and reliability out of foundation models through systematic testing, iteration, and structured evaluation, not guesswork.
- Embed AI Across the Enterprise: Partner with teams across underwriting, claims, customer experience, operations, and engineering to identify high-value opportunities and ship AI-powered capabilities into how the business actually runs. You’re a force multiplier. Your work makes every function more capable, not just the tech org.
- Build AI That Thrives in Production: Anyone can build a compelling demo. You’ll solve the harder problem, building agents with the transparency, explainability, and ethical foundations that earn stakeholder confidence and unlock production deployment in workflows where it actually matters.
- Stay Sharp on Agentic Tooling: Maintain deep fluency in the rapidly evolving agentic ecosystem, including Claude, Claude Code, MCP, and emerging frameworks. Evaluate new tools and approaches with a builder’s eye: what ships, what scales, what’s hype.
What You'll Bring
- 3-5+ years of software engineering experience, with 1-2+ years specifically building and deploying AI/LLM-powered systems in production environments. You’ve felt the pain of taking an agent from “works in a notebook” to “runs reliably at 2 AM.”
- Strong software engineering skills across one or more modern languages, with hands-on experience building on agentic frameworks, including LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen, Claude tool use, or equivalents. You have opinions about these tools because you’ve built real things with them.
- Solid fundamentals in API design, async/event-driven systems, and cloud infrastructure (AWS strongly preferred). You can hold your own in an architecture review with senior platform engineers.
- Experience with agent evaluation, tracing, and production monitoring, using LangSmith, Langfuse, or similar tools. You know that deploying an agent without observability is malpractice.
- Working knowledge of RAG architectures, vector stores, and embedding pipelines. You’ve built retrieval systems that work on real-world, messy enterprise data, not clean tutorial datasets.
- Bonus points: Insurance or fintech domain experience, MCP server development, Claude Code power user, or contributions to open source agentic tooling.
